Visit Millesgården during summer

In 1907, the artist couple Carl and Olga Milles purchased a plot of land on Herserud Cliff, high above the Värtan strait on Lidingö. Their dream was to build a home with adjoining art studios. Today, Millesgården Museum stands as a unique and independent art institution. Behind the museum is the Carl and Olga Milles Lidingö Home Foundation, whose mission is to preserve, care for, and provide public access to Millesgården and its rich collections. To keep the site vibrant and able to host temporary exhibitions, philanthropic support is essential – from companies, foundations, and generous private individuals.

From Hotel Diplomat, it’s easy to reach Lidingö and Millesgården. By car or taxi, the journey takes about 10–15 minutes. A convenient option is to walk to the Östermalmstorg subway station (just a five-minute walk from the hotel), take the red line to Ropsten, and then transfer to a bus toward Torsviks Torg — from there, it’s a short walk to the museum. For a more scenic route, ferries also depart from Nybrokajen, right outside the hotel. The boat ride takes about an hour and offers beautiful views of the Stockholm archipelago.
